As a result of their continued disobedience, the Jews were defeated by the Babylonians, Jerusalem was destroyed, and many of the people were carried off captive to Babylon. But after spending seventy years in exile they were allowed to return to their homeland and rebuild the temple, exactly in accordance with God’s promises through the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah. The book of Ezra records what happened during the period when the exiles returned. It was a time of restoration and revival, though there were many challenges to face. And through their experience we today can learn many lessons about moving​​​
